I do tend to crop in the edges a little many times and do my own corrections anyways as even with some lenses that had profiles (F-mount), I wasn't always satisfied with what Adobe had.Įither way, it is nice to be able to turn it off on the RAWs from Z7 II.
PICKTORIAL LENS CORRECTION FREE
Why we love it: Now on version 4.0, Picktorial is free photo editing. Lightroom has over 900 lens profiles from all kinds of manufacturers, including major lens brands like Canon, Nikon, Leica, Pentax, Ricoh, etc. It is a nice feature, although honestly, I have never found a problem with it on the Z7. In this paper the distortion of pictorial features brought about by one such averaging transformation is investigated. It works with JPEGs as well as RAW files, and the perspective distortion and lens.
It does so by performing the inverse transformation i.e., for every pixel in the destination image, calculate the corresponding coordinate in the input image. It doesn't currently do full-size correction, but I think that'd be pretty easy to add, similarly to how the webgl-distort library worked. The Lens Distortion Correction algorithm is implemented by warping the distorted input image into a rectified, undistorted output image. Na, definitely holding off for a Z8 or whatever comes next. You can drag your own images onto the example image to correct distortions on anything. As to why this can't be done in the Z7/Z6 gen 1 bodies I'm not sure unless it's baked into the RAW file, versus maybe a flag or lens correction data (as a supplemental chunk of data) in the Z II RAW files.,Īnother reason to get the Z7 II? 😊. With the Z7 II apparently you can turn off the profile in post. I think especially with my Z 14-24mm f/2.8 it would be useful to have choice to turn off distortion correction to minimize stretching of objects at periphery of the image. Fujinon A lenses are corrected for slightly closer work, more like 1:5. Another type of multifocal lenses called trifocal lenses can correct near, middle, and distance vision all in. I would like to have option in LR, frankly. Multifocal lenses correct both near and distance vision in the same lens. I have Affinity and DXO, but I'd have to correct manually as neither has the profile I'd need. If youre primarily looking for a free RAW viewer rather than an editor, then take a look at Picktorial.
